Spa town Jachymov

The first radon-noble gas water spa in the world was founded here in the year 1906. The town is situated on the southern slopes of the Krusne Hory mountains at an altitude of 650m, in an area with numerous unique underground mineral deposits. In the early 16th Century, the town become famous for its silver ore mines, it become a royal town and was granted the right to mint so-called Joachimsthalers (silver coins). When the silver deposit were exhausted , uranium ore was exploited. The high content of natural radon in the Jachymov mine springs became the basis of the treatment of locomotion organs. The radiotherapy is used for its distinctive anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects, it is worldwide unique. The public is well aware of its effectiveness, which is also proven by the number of regular foreign visitors. The therapy procedures and other services in the reconstructed neo-classicist Radium Palace Hotel are of the highest standard. The quiet town environment and nearby Krusne Hory attract people for walks and trips to the local sights.
 
Treatment
In the Svornost Mine, on the 12th level, at a depth of 500 m there are springs: Academician Behounek, Curie, C-1 and a new one called Agricola. The quality of springs is determined by the average values of volume activity 10,5 kBq/l, temperature 32°C and issue rate 400 l/min. The water received is used to prepare radon baths of the activity of 4,5 - 5,5 kBq/l that are used as the basic component of treatment.
The baths are provided 6 times in a week in the spa treatment facilities, those being fully air-conditioned in order to avoid any side effects of radon decay products. Dosed radon bath treatments are provided at an isothermic temperature of 35 - 37°C of 20 minute duration.
The radon bath treatment is based on an unspecific stimulative effect induced by micro-doses of alpha-radiation. The dose absorbed during a week treatment is estimated to reach 22 mRem, which corresponds to a load an organism is exposed to when beeing X-Rayed 50 %, although here the load is advantageously distributed in 18 small doses. In addition to the radon baths, special remedial gymnastic lessons are provided, either individually or in groups, in a gym or a swimming pool, massage of all types, reflex methods, acupuncture, acupressure, hydrotherapy, electrotherapy, laser-therapy, gerontotherapy.
If the treatment package is still not sufficiently effective, a traditional therapeutical method is employed, Brachyradium-therapy (so called Jachymov boxes), which has been exercised exclusively in this form since 1910.

Spa hotel Radium Palace
Built in 1910-1912 by well-known architect Burian for a joint-stock company headed by count Tarrouca. In its prime times the spa hotel ranked among the best of its type in Europe and was very popular in the most significant political, social and cultural communities both at home and abroad.
The redevelopment and refurbishment of the building commenced on the 6th January 1996. The building was open new on the 5th April 1997. The characteristic Art neoclassicist style of this impressive building procedures in the house.

A modern sanatorium built in 1975 with all treatment facilities which enable in-house treatment of even severely disabled patients at any time and year season.
Capacity: 268 beds in single and double rooms and 4 suites.

A sanatorium built in 1992 with complex treatment facilities for both standart treatment and treatment of severely disabled patients needing specialized rehabilitation. It is centrally located in the spa quarter.
Capacity: 128 beds (single and double rooms and 5 suites)

Depandance hotel: Praha. Annex of the Curie Sanatorium, built in 1902, since 1925 used as a spa facility. In - house dining room, the procedures in the Curie (cca 150 m far from spa house). Capacity: 80 beds.
